Hand Raising a Kitten – The Story of Ricky Bobby
Posted in Wellness Dog Food Articles on 09/13/2009 01:20 pm by adminMy family has owned cats of well over 20 years. We were in no way prepared for what our dog, Shamrock, brought home one day. In the mouth of this great German Shepard was a little newborn kitten, we ended up hand rearing.
Shamrock was a sweet, loving dog, took our 4 cats immediately. We adopted her when she was 2 years old from the shelter. One day she came to us and literally a long spit kitten no more than 3 cm, with an umbilical cord still attached. We searched forthe kitten's mother, but she never could find. There was nothing we could do but try our hand-rearing of kittens.
Even with tons of cat experience, nothing prepared what we committed to hand-rearing. We had no idea what to do, so we researched information on the Internet. Through much trial and error, we have learned what works best for our cat who we named Ricky Bobby.
We researched formula, techniques and tips for him to eat to grow well and healthy. The probability that a kittenYoung people make it thin to none. Since we have no idea if Ricky Bobby important colostrum had received from his mother, we were unsure if he had come for valuable antibodies, he's a good chance at a healthy life.
There were many times we do not think this kitten would do, but here he is 2 years later, healthy and happy is. He suffers from an inner ear infection, leaving him permanently cranking his head to one side. He runs and plays and behaves like any other normal cat. Now, the normal is not the word to use for him! As he raised his hand, he seems more like a man than any other cat we've ever heard. He uses his paws like hands and is in many other things than a normal cat would have dreamed.
Hand-rearing Ricky Bobby was a tough, but awesome experience. He is a very special cat, and we will never forget him and his amazing entry into our lives.
