Choosing Dog Food For Your Pooch
Posted in Wellness Dog Food Articles on 10/04/2009 10:30 pm by adminNowadays, everyone has an opinion about dog food, what is best. Many of my clients ask me what I recommend them to feed their dogs and why. They know what they say about opinions. For what it's worth, here's mine.
I have checked many sources, with "experts" talk, trying a variety of food on my own dogs, and read everything I could find. In the following paragraphs I will explain to you what I perceive as a fact, and you can form your own opinion.
Unfortunately,Most people choose their dog food to name recognition, advertising hype, and the veterinarian or breeder's recommendation alone, without checking the ingredients and nutritional information.
Raw Meat DIET
Some people believe in feeding raw meat to a strict diet consisting of beef, chicken, pork, turkey or lamb. Many believe that dogs have evolved from wolves. The theory is that wolves do not stop to make a fire and cook what killed them before consumption. Neither, they go to theDentist to clean teeth. Seriously, they were eating something kill all their raw materials, including the bones. I have this gnawing agree on a raw bone, is very good for a dog's teeth, she kept free of tartar and can go from your dog ever been under anesthesia to prevent his teeth cleaned. A raw meat diet is pure protein. Although meat protein should compensate for the highest percentage, other groups of foods needed to have a balanced diet. This method offeeding can be very expensive and time consuming to prepare.
MIXED RAW FOOD DIET
Others will feed a combination of raw meat, raw vegetables, and potatoes believing they are giving their dog a well-balanced meal like a human. However, with this diet, there are still many missing food elements-in particular–essential fatty acids for skin and coat among others. This diet can also be more costly and time consuming to prepare.
PEOPLE FOOD
Some People cook complete "human food" meals for their dogs. Even this choice can be crazy expensive, time consuming and honestly a little. This is simply just treat the dog and the creation of bad habits. In addition, as you know, the cooking takes much of the nutritional value of foods, so it does not eat a healthy manner. These pampered pooches almost always seems to have the behavior and obedience problems, lack of needed nutrients and are often overweight, which may causeseveral health issues.
In the menu on "MY HOUSE
I Do not feed my dogs a combination of kibble (dry dog food) and raw meat and bones. I do not feed any canned food, because it is 78% water and has the least nutritional value. I Do not feed my dogs raw meat bones. Each of my little dog is a piece of raw pork neck bones as a reward for their breakfast kibble. They love it and it really helps their teeth tarter free, so I never in my dogs to the vetfor cleaning (which is expensive and requires anesthesia). I sometimes feed raw chicken legs, thighs and wings – bones and all. Yes, you can feed chicken bones, a dog, as long as they are raw.
Where to start?
Before you send a dry, a little homework. Go to the Internet and Google some of the following:
"Corn in the Dog," "wheat in dog food", "Brewer's Rice" (which is only a filler), andmyall-time favorite, "Chicken by-products in dog food." Chicken by-products consisting of parts should be discarded (ie, feet, beaks, heads, feathers, blood and lungs).
You can also see "animal by-products", and that's the worst of all. It is not clear what these are. I think you are on the name brand dog food, the meat by-products and chicken products are surprised when one of the most important components.
Read the ingredient list on the side or rearthe planet!
Check the label on the bag before you buy. Remember, this list of items in order, starting with those that the majority of the food. The first three to five ingredients tell the story. One of the marks is often recommended by veterinarians are something like this:
Ingredients:
Ground whole corn, chicken products, soybean meal, animal fat, soybean oil, chicken liver flavor …
How the Wendy's commercial used to say … Where's TheBEEF?
There are a variety of fillers dry ingredients in food that your dog can digest, or only partially digested. This is a great loss of nutritional value as well as a waste of money. Manufacturer's recommended food servings per day are more than I think, should eat a dog. Have you ever noticed how many overweight dogs are out there?
Although her a few dollars more per bag cost of food, which I recommend, with the higher quality of ingredients andless filler will have a much higher rate of digestion, so you can be a bit less food and better nutrition, which makes it cost-effective in the long run.
In addition, fillers such as corn, wheat and soybeans may be due to several allergies that our four-legged friends Treaty. I am very happy that my dogs had never suffer from skin allergies, hot spots, urinary tract infections or other health problems by many dogs.
Below, I have a number of comments included in my research, I founddescribes some of the questions with meat by-products, corn, wheat and soy.
Meat by-products
Meat Products, a euphemism for the parts of animals that are no longer than meat from a smart consumer. The well-known term "meat by-products" is misleading because these byproducts contain little, if any, meat. These are the parts of the animal left over after the meat was removed from the bone. Chicken by-products include heads, feet, intestines, lungs, spleen, kidney, brain,Liver, stomach, bone, blood, intestines, and any other part of the carcass not for human consumption.
Meat products:
Pet grade meat products consist of organs and other parts sentenced either not desired or intended for human consumption. These bones can be, blood, intestines, lungs, ligaments, heads, feet and feathers.
A vet writes …
Originally I had the pet food manufacturer's declarations as fact … that an assortment of "complete and balanced"Pet animals were feeding entirely, because this wording is not legally allowed on pet food labels, unless feeding trials demonstrated its correctness. I finally Found I was convinced that the "complete and balanced confused" dog food to feed them adequately. Grain-based diet for dogs do not make nutritional sense and that is exactly why I saw the patient with dry and flaky, sometimes oily skin and rough skin. They ate"Fully featured and balanced" cereal-based diet was added with anything else. Why add something, if it is "complete and balanced" already? The meat-based diet are the best choice. I prefer chicken as the first (main recommend-) component, if I have a dog food, because I have seen so many dogs to chicken-based diets, which were in really excellent health. Lamb, turkey, fish, beef and venison are all good choices.
Here is a list of symptoms may indicate that your dog has a wheatAllergy. It is important to note that wheat is digested and high in B vitamins:
Itchy Skin
· Shaking
· Otitis
· Licking paws
· Rubbing his face on the carpet
· Vomiting
· Diarrhea
· Flatulence
· Sneezing
· Asthma-like symptoms
· Anal Itching
· Behavioral changes
· Seizures
Soybean meal is high quality protein filler with 50% protein. It increases the protein content in the feed. Although there is a high source of protein, it can also cause allergies in dogs.
Note that only a small percentage of allergies caused by fillers. Most skin allergies by feeding a brand with a high omega-3 and -6 fatty acids that are found in my top two brands to be solved.
Here is a short list of medium-priced brands, I think, are our 4-feed-legged family members:
1. Nutro Ultra
2. Blue Buffalo
3. Solid Gold
4.> Wellness
5. Natural Balance
I Do not feed my dogs Nutro Ultra and Blue Buffalo. Here are the first few ingredients of each.
Nutro Ultra
Chicken Meal, Whole Brown Rice, Lamb Meal, poultry fat, beet pulp, flaxseed.
Other ingredients are: salmon fish meal, fish oil and sunflower oil. These and other ingredients give Nutro Ultra one of the highest Omega 3 a.m. to 6 p.m. rating in the industry at 3.5 to 4.0. Very important for skin and coat. Most brands are about 1.4 to1.6. Corn gluten is also a good source of protein, can also contribute to some allergies. Nutro also has 3 possibilities that do not contain corn gluten. Lamb, venison, and herring, and recently a new Ultra formula, which contains more antioxidants, whole grains, meat and three formula. They call it Ultra Holistic Super Food.
Blue Buffalo
Boneless Chicken, Chicken Menu, whole ground barley, whole ground brown rice, oatmeal, blueberries, cranberries, green tea extract.
The Omega-3 –and 6 fatty acids are in just the right proportion. Because cooking (exposure to extreme heat) causes vitamins to loose up to 75 % of their potency, Blue also boast their “LifeSource Bits.” The Lifesource Bits are precise blends of nutrients and antioxidants that are cold formed to retain 100% of their nutritional value. to help maintain your dog’s immune system. Both of these are high quality brands that I don’t hesitate to recommend.
So, now that you know a little more about Ingredients, you can at your local pet store and spend some time reading the bags. There are some very good dry food brands out there. These are just some of the brands I should look into. They are easily available at Petco and Petsmart.
We have to say. "You are what you eat." When you apply to your dog that you on what to feed him to make good decisions.
Thank you and Bon Appetit!
