How to Train a Dog to Walk on a Leash

You have a new dog, maybe a dog or an older dog will be accepted by you or saved. The first thing you do with your new dog companion, start walking. Even if you have a huge fenced in the garden, have a walk with the dog, but a necessity.

Why Walk Your Dog

First, walk your dog is a good form of exercise for him and for you. And who does not need a little more movement?

DogWalking is also a good time to begin the lesson your dog that you are the one who has authority in the family. They do this by having the dog next to you instead of running ahead of you. You do it by checking if your dog can walk, can be held to stop him for a few minutes sniffing everything you walk by.

Numerous possibilities for socialization will occur during the migration. You will meet other people, other dogs and a wide range ofCars, noise and other experiences of your new dog to be comfortable with.

But even if you know you should walk your dog, is the larger question of how this feat is not successful.

Start with the right tools

You need the right tools before you begin the hike will have your dog. First, you need the leash. Most lines will work fine. Some people prefer leather, others prefer nylon. The choice is yours. However, the only line you do not choose, should bean extendable / retractable leash.

These retractable leashes are popular, but they are not good for dog walking. Their design makes difficult the correction of your dog and ask you to let your dog run free in front of you. These lines can also be dangerous. If the thin rope cord wrapped around you or your dog is, for example, it can cause serious injuries.

In addition to the line, you also need a collar. Here, where it is more difficult asdifferent collar going to work better with some dogs in comparison to others. Here's a sampling:

– Flat Collars – These are the standard nylon and leather collars you see in pet shops for sale.
– Slip collars or chokers – they are often made from metal and come in a variety of sizes.
– Prong Necklace – These are like waves, however, slip collars at the ends, which are used for corrective action purposes.
– Head Halter – These fit over the dogs head and act like a halter horseCollared
– Harnesses – This type of "collar" does not fit around the dog's neck at all, but around his waist.

So, what's best for leash training? Flat collars are well on your dog have the most time, but they are not good for corrections. Slip and prong collars are some of the best. Prong collars are good for dogs with thick hair. Head halters are usually recommended by coaches, but is despised by dogs so it make sense to avoid them. Harnesses should neverhave used with dogs, which a lot of strength because it allows them to exert very much force on them. However, it could be the perfect choice for dogs with small, fragile neck, which are violated with a collar.

You should invest treated a dog that you assist in the training.

Leashing training steps

Good dog walking habits start before you even leave the house. You do not want to work with a dog who is very excited to wait, then, to tryCalm your dog before you take my collar and leash on him. This is a good habit to be in one and your dog will pick up quickly if you are consistent.

When he is calm, make sure that he is in a sitting position and place the collar and leash on him. If he again excited, you have to wait until he calmed down. Then open the door to use to go to finish the hike. Keep him sitting. Open the door to the outside and then call your dog(You still keep the leash the whole time, of course). When he gets up from a sitting position before him, make him sit down again and again to calm, then repeat the procedure call.

If you are outside, you need to work on to keep your dog's head parallel to your leg. You do not even want the ears, in front of you. If that happens, pull a quick and strong on the leash to correct your dog. If he does not slow down or back in the right position, turn around and run in the opposite direction. You may have so many times until your dog starts getting the idea of where you want him to leave.

Corrections should do if your dog tries to stop if you do not want him. However, you should include your dog at random times to stop, he will get used heel at your command.

Remember to praise it, your dog and treat him when he, what you want, do not want to strengthenBehaviors.

You should seek your dog at least twice a day for about 30 minutes time. Some active dogs require even longer periods of walking or additional sales opportunities, work like a treadmill or a dog park, to all of their energy.
